Title
HOARD
Description
English:

Roman coin hoard of 76 coins dating from 49 BC-AD 209. The coins submitted for consideration consist of a group of 2 silver and 74 copper alloy coins, 73 of which are mainly of the large-sized copper alloy denomination known as the sestertius with a few smaller asses and dupondii. The coins are much worn and some have lost edge and surface, with only a corroded core remaining. For this reason it is difficult to be certain of the denomination of the smaller coins, although the thickness of some suggests that they were also originally sestertii. These coins are predominantly second century AD sestertii from the Antonine period with the latest coin broadly dated to the early Severan period (AD 196-209).

The two silver coins are a Roman Republican denarius of Julius Caesar (dating to 49 BC) and a Roman Imperial denarius of Hadrian. The other copper alloy coin is an early fourth century tetrarchic nummus and can be considered to be a stray find.

The coins have been fully catalogued but can be summarised by reign as:
