| Description |
English: Captains cabin of sloop HMS Gannet (1878). The boxed in section seen in the shot contains private accommodation but the whole sterncastle of the ship was Captain's accommodation. However, the space was shared with a crane used to raise and lower the ships propellor through a hole in the floor and a shaft leading down through the ship. The propellor was raised to reduce drag if the ship was using just sails and not steam power. |
