Bayntun was laid down on 5 April 1942 as "BDE-1" at the Boston Navy Yard. She was launched on 27 June 1942 and transferred to the Royal Navy under lend lease on 20 January 1943. She was given the pennant number K310 and departed Boston the following month, bound for Bermuda. | |||
