HMCS ''St. Laurent'' 3rd in line to refuel

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: HMCS St. Laurent 3rd in line to refuel on the U.S. tanker's starboard side. The St. Laurent's bow is visible at lower right. Note the unusual "round-down" at the top of the ship's hull, indicative of all Cadillac DDEs and DDHs (Destroyer Escorts and Destroyer - Helicopter).
  • "The design of these ships was distinctly Canadian and unique. Developed to operate in our harsh conditions, the entire deck edges of the vessels were rounded to prevent the formation of ice. The design was also to help prevent us in case of nuclear fallout, or biological or chemical attack: the ships were fitted with an external sprinkler system" to wash away contaminants, and the rounded design made it easier to decontaminate the entire vessel."[1]
The two Cadillac DDEs ahead of the St. Laurent are unknown. Just leaving the tanker's port side is the heavy cruiser USS Newport News (the two smaller U.S. vessels are unknown). This was north of Puerto Rico during Springboard 1967, if I recall correctly.
