Description
English: RAN River class destroyer escort HMAS Derwent D49 in Vung Tau harbour, South Vietnam. The River class destroyer escorts undertook escort duties in Vietnamese waters during the Vietnam War. They escorted the former aircraft carrier HMAS Sydney, which was converted to a fast troop transport, as well as other vessels used to carry personnel and equipment between Australia and Vietnam. The Derwent completed three operational escorts during the Vietnam War.
