Dansk: En plads i Ariccia efter solnedgang
  • Dansk: Hammer opholdt sig i Italien 1857-59, hvor han udførte den malede skitse til maleriet. På grundlag heraf malede han nærværende version hjemme i København i 1862. Motivet blev kunstnerens mest populære, og han har siden udført flere gentagelser og variationer, heriblandt en identisk gentagelse fra 1864 (tidl. i brygger Carl Jacobsens eje, nu i privateje). Tilsyneladende har Hammer bragt en version af maleriet med til Nordamerika 1874-75. I hvert fald har den amerikanske maler William Rimmer udført en identisk gentagelse i 1876 (Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven).
