Summary
[edit]DescriptionHH 80-81 ESO.gif |
English: The entire HH 80/81 complex is shown in this mosaic of two H images obtained with the ESO 3.5 m New Technology Telescope. The field of view is approximately 97 × 106. In this and all subsequent images, north is up and east is to the left. The HH 80/81 complex appears superposed on the edge of the L291 cloud, traced by an abrupt discontinuity in both the number of background stars and in the intensity of diffuse emission, which runs diagonally across the frame from SE to NW. The position of the deeply embedded driving source is marked by the cross, while the dashed line indicates the orientation of the radio jet (Martí et al. 1993). The region around the source contains a number of optically visible reflection nebulae, but none of these are illuminated by the source itself. The rectangles show the placement of HH 80/81 within the WFPC2 field of view. |
