Français : Louis Hersent, Ruth et Booz. En 1819, le roi Louis XVIII commande à Louis Hersent une représentation de l’épisode biblique où Ruth se glisse sous la couverture de Booz endormi. De cette union naîtra Obed, aïeul de David et du Christ. Initialement prévue pour la jeune miniaturiste Lizynka Rue (Mme de Mirbel), l’œuvre sera finalement livrée à Madame du Cayla, qui était entre-temps devenue favorite du souverain.

Exhibition history Paris, Salon de 1822, n° 687 : « Sur le minuit, Booz fut effrayé et se troubla voyant une jeune femme couchée à ses pieds, et il lui dit « qui êtes-vous ? elle lui répond : je suis Ruth votre servante, étendez votre couverture sur votre servante parce que vous êtes le plus proche parent de mon mari... » (Extrait de la bible de Vence). Propriété du ministère de la maison du roi.
