DescriptionHABS - Norris Locomotive Works stone at the Washington Monument (cropped).jpg |
English: Commemorative Stone on level 270 of the Washington Monument donated by the workers of the Norris Locomotive Works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Feb. 22, 1856. The stone depicts a locomotive named "Washington"; while the first notable locomotive produced by Norris carried that name, the locomotive depicted is of a much later design (a 4-4-0 with a balloon stack), more typical of the period of the stone. It appears to be heavily damaged by time. Cropped from the digital original. |
