Description
English: Up Alameda Canon, from the Big Cut.; Thomas Houseworth&Company; about 1872; Albumen silver print; 84.XC.979.4459; No Copyright - United States (http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/) This portion of the first transcontinental railroad was constructed manually by Chinese workers during 1865-1866 for the Western Pacific Railroad (1862-1870). Alameda canyon is now called Niles Canyon.
