English: The 6,3-kilometre-long storage ring facility HERA was used to accelerate protons and electrons. What happens when these particles collide with high energy was observed by highly sensitive, house-sized devices known as detectors. The picture shows the H1 detector under construction. |

The 6,3 kilometers long storage ring facility HERA is used to accelerate protons and electrons. With the help of extremely sensitive building-sized detectors it is possible to see what happens when these particles collide with high energy. The picture shows the H1 detector under construction and gives an impression of the complexity of these detecting instruments used today in particle physics. |
