of the vulva and supplies the Bartholinian gland (see Fig. 42 D) ;it corresponds to the artery to the bulb in the male ; (2) an anteriorterminal branch which supplies the clitoris and vestibule—artery to the clitoris. The companion veins are numerous and pass, some intothe inferior hsemorrhoidal, some into the inferior vesical plexus. Thesuperficial labial branches frequently form varicosities of large size inpregnancy. The vulva is almost completely encircled by highlyvascular erectile tissue, arranged in two crescentic lateral masses—the vaginal bulbs (see Fig. 41). The deep transverse perineal artery PELVIC BLOOD-VESSELS; LYMPHATICS, AND NERVES 71 and the artery to the clitoris supply them with blood. Deep lacer-ation of the vulva may give rise to serious haemorrhage, owing to the great vascularity of these parts. Lymphatics.
