Description
Nederlands: Een boom die in de USA ‘Kentucky coffetree’ wordt genoemd. De wetenschappelijke naam, Gymnacladus dioica, verwijst naar het feit dat de boom er in de winter en het vroege voorjaar zo doods uitziet. Gymno = naakt; cladus = tak. Deze boom op deze plek in in zoverre toepasselijk dat hier op 12 januari 1807 de Leidse buskruitramp plaatsvond met meer dan 150 doden, ruim 2000 gewonden, 220 verwoeste huizen en vele ontzielde en ontbladerde bomen. Een doodsbeenderenboom kan verwijzen naar deze ramp.
