Description Der Ort Gingst (Rügen) liegt westlich von Bergen auf Rügen am Koselower See. Erstmals erwähnt wurde der Ort 1232. Bis 1326 war er Teil des Fürstentums Rügen. 1648, mit Beginn des Westfälischen Friedens, wurde Rügen Teil von Schwedisch-Pommern. Im Jahr 1815 ging Gingst dann an die preußische Provinz Pommern. Seit 1818 dann Landkreis Rügen und bis 1990 zum Kreis Rügen im Bez. Rostock. Blickfang von allen Seiten ist die spätgotische St.-Jacobs-Kirche mit dem wuchtigen Glockenturm.
