he POW camp in Wunsdorf, (Zozzen, Brandenburg, Berlin, Germany) the "Halbmondlager" as it was known in German and "Half moon" or "Crescent moon camp" in English was very special place.

It was the first and largest POW camp for "non-european" soldiers of the British and French Empire during WW1. The idea behind the camp was to have the POW´s change allegiance and take up the German cause and fight their colonial masters.

The Half moon camp and Zehrensdorf Indian Cemetery marks: 

1. The highest number of Gurkhas commemorated in Germany (85),

2. One of the largest "Indian" (and Gurkha) cemeteries from WW1 in (Eastern) Europe,

3. and is one of the earliest POW camps where Gurkhas were commemorated and/or kept during WW1 (1914).
