Summary
[edit]DescriptionGunfleet Sands Offshore Wind Farm - geograph.org.uk - 1471105.jpg |
English: Gunfleet Sands Offshore Wind Farm The Gunfleet Sands Offshore Wind Farm project is planned to comprise 48 wind turbines and, when complete, it is claimed will generate enough clean renewable energy for approximately 120,000 households or approximately 20% of the households in Essex. It is claimed that the project will make a considerable contribution to the domestic UK target of reducing CO2 emissions by 20% below 1990 levels by the time it is fully commissioned in 2010. The project was authorized in 2004, and is located about 7 kilometres offshore from Clacton-on-Sea.
In this view of the north-east end of the wind farm, from Sandy Point, several turbines are in place although not yet commissioned, and several other bases are in situ but have yet to receive their blades. The grid square co-ordinate is taken from a page on the Government's OPSI website http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2008/uksi_20083046_en_1 although the original 2004 consent listed 30 turbines in locations in 15 different kilometre squares from TM2007 to TM2410. |
