It depicts Miss B, an unnamed patient of William Withey Gull, before and after treatment for anorexia nervosa. Gull used these images to illustrate his 1873 paper "Anorexia Nervosa (Apepsia Hysterica, Anorexia Hysterica)" in which anorexia nervosa was described and which first established the name of the condition |
