Summary
[edit]DescriptionGuido of Arrezzo's example for diaphonia in tetrardus.jpg |
English: The Latin text of Guido of Arezzo's Micrologus (diaphonia examples in chapter 19) says: «Ecce ut .F. ad .G. et .a. in finem subsequitur.» ("See how F proceeds to G and a in the end")
The cantus part is written in red ink by letters over the text «Victor ascendens caelos unde descenderat» ("Victory goes up to heaven and from there it might come down") in a tetrardus melos descending from c to G. The description treats the movement of the organum voice written in black ink changing from G ut to F ut as «vis organi» (a kind of pivotal note which cannot be undermined during a tetardus cadence on the finalis G re ut). |
