Kortsch is worthinspecting more closely, as it is oneof the best specimens of a Tyrolesevillage, untouched by the influencesof modern civilisation, we shall find.Notice particularly the fine old Wellen-zonhaus, with its enormous gables,bow-windows and frescoed walls.Schlanders is a good place to makea noon halt, as we shall be sure toget a good dinner at the Post orKreuz, inns which enjoy a goodreputation. The castle has com-pletely fallen to decay, the coat-of-arms,chiselled in white marble, alone re-minding us of former splendor. Oppo-site the Castle, above Schloss Gold-rain, on the left bank of the Etsch, are the ruins of an old castle, oncethe seat of the powerful family of theAnnenberger. It was built in thetwelfth century, and is said to havederived its name from a town of thesame name in Saxony. The membersof the family, which became extinctin 1658, are buried in the Sp
