| Description |
English: Local train from Manchester Central via Fallowfield approaching Guide Bridge station. The line from Manchester Central, which provided a connection with the CLC system from Liverpool Central etc. at Chorlton Junction, joined the main line from Manchester London Road west of here at Fairfield Junction, but the local service was always sparse and ceased in 7/58. The line was also traversed by a few through expresses to Liverpool, but much more by freight - until 1983. During the period 1954-81, when the Manchester - Sheffield Woodhead route was worked by electric locomotives, their Depot was on this line at Reddish. The locomotive here is ex-GC Parker class 9F (LNER N5) 0-6-2T No. 69370 (built 3/1901, withdrawn 9/60). (See also SJ9297 : Up freight at Stockport Junction, Guide Bridge). |
