Description

WORLD CONGRESS CENTER, Atlanta, April 2, 2011 – When talking to fans of World Wide Entertainments’ (WWE) Wrestle Mania about what it takes to be a Citizen-Soldier and the opportunities the Georgia Army Guard has to offer, it is not always necessary to be serious. Sometimes, the best way to reach people is to simply have fun.

From the left: Georgia Army Guard staff sergeants Mark Burns and Jose Sanchez, Spc. Robert Deese and Sgt. Allen Brown "ham it up" for photos with Ethan “The Mad Fan” Johnson of Decatur out on the exhibition hall floor. Burns, a readiness NCO and distribution supervisor, and Brown, a vehicle operator, are both with Brunswick’s Company G, 148th Brigade Support Battalion. Sanchez, a section chief, and Deese, an M109 Paladin gunner, are with Savannah’s Battery B, 1st Battalion, 118th Field Artillery.

The three are among the more than 15 Army Guard recruiters and marketing specialists working three different venues in the days leading up to Wrestle Mania 27 – what many consider the “Super Bowl of wrestling” – on April 3.

An estimated 40,000-plus wrestling fans had already passed through the exhibition center, many of them stopping to get their photo made with the Guard sponsored car of NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. Other fans got to work the loading mechanism of a 105mm howitzer, ride a Guard pedal powered go-cart, or try their hand at recruiting’s football or basketball challenge, says Sgt. 1st Class Jeff Martin, who works at the Guard recruiting office in Dahlonega, Ga.
