Description
Español: El Guacamayo Escarlata es una especie de ave perteneciente a la familia de las psitácidas. Además, es una de las nueve especies existentes del género Ara, del cual es una de las de mayor tamaño, pues llega a alcanzar 90 cm de longitud y 1 kg de peso. Habita a lo largo de un amplio rango de distribución que abarca desde el sureste de México hasta las selvas pedemontanas del departamento de Cochabamba en el centro de Bolivia, en bosques húmedos tropicales cercanos a grandes corrientes de agua, a altitudes que van desde el nivel del mar hasta los 1000 msnm. Se reconocen dos subespecies: Ara macao macao y Ara macao cyanoptera.
