Description |
English: The children pictured may be assembled for "Children of All Nations Day", which was an event held at the AYPE. The event included children from Japan, China, Assyria, Egypt, Morocco, Alaska, Hawaii, Siam, Labrador, Siberia and other countries. The Inuit child pictured in the lower left is Norman Smith, standing next to his sister Miss Columbia, who was named "Queen of the Pay Streak" and most beautiful woman at the AYPE. The Inuit ("Eskimos") and Igorrote groups were both featured at the Pay Streak (amusement area) of the AYPE. Frank H. Nowell (1864-1950) was appointed the official photographer of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition, which took place in Seattle in 1909. Nowell's many AYPE photographs were displayed at the fair and used in many official publications.Caption by MOHAI staff Caption on image: x3016, [Photographer's mark:] F.H.
