[edit]DescriptionGrodynski Memorial.JPG |
English: Resting place of dr Andrzej Grodyński and Alicja Grodyńska (nee Matter) at grave site XIV-63. Thirty years after the death of Alicja, who outlived her husband by nearly forty years, the grave site burial and headstone 'rights' apparently became available and were sold in 2002 by the cemetery and/or a relative, to a third-party who had the obelisk re-dressed and re-engraved after another internment. Although apparently there is no formal 'cemetery policy' to ensure that in such circumstances the original details are not lost from the site, thankfully in this instance information relating to Andrzej and Alicja was subsequently engraved on the side of the obelisk pedestal. The concrete plinth with vase placed in front of the inscription (effectively masking it from view) was moved to one side prior to the photograph. [This practice of selling on grave site 'rights' is apparently not uncommon in Poland but one wonders how many 'memorials' it has effectively caused to 'disappear'.)]
