Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Halina Grodyńska meeting up for Katyn Massacre remembrance in London on 12 April 1952 with close friends Count Stefan Tyskiewicz (left of picture), Nika Offenkowska and husband Zenon Offenkowski, along with other friends associated with the Polish government-in-exile.
Count Tyszkiewicz (pl) was born on 24 November 1896 in Warsaw, Poland. He married Elena Herzogin von Leuchtenburg (1892-1971), daughter of Georgi Maksimilianovich von Leuchtenberg, Sixth Duke of Leuchtenberg, and Anastasiya Nikolaievna Petrovic-Njegoš, Princess of Montenegro, on 18 July 1917 in Yalta on the Crimean Peninsula. He died on 1 February 1976 at age 79 in London, England. Stefan served in both World Wars, as well as in the Polish-Bolshevik War (1919-1921), and after WWII settled with his wife (also known as “Princess Elena Georgievna of Enbergenberg”) in London, as did Halina and Stanisław SA Grodyński. Both families were friends before WWII and the Count visited Stanisław and Halina when Stanisław was appointed District Governor in Sarny in Poland’s Eastern Borderlands (now in Western Ukraine), circa 1925. As Stefan, Zenon, Stanisław, Nika and Halina all served in Egypt and Italy (Monte Cassino) they added common war experiences to their recollections and remained close friends for the rest of their eventful lives.
