Summary
[edit]DescriptionGrill in Reigate Tunnel - geograph.org.uk - 1115132.jpg |
English: Grill in Reigate Tunnel. The building of Reigate Tunnel (see 608841) enabled further digging to take place either side of it to extract the fine quality sand that exists there and as a result various caverns remain. These have seen various uses over the years including a shooting club and for storage. This old grill refers to one such storage use. It is situated just inside the tunnel on the left hand side (it is just visible in 608841), the access to the cavern itself being a bricked up entrance just outside the tunnel (and it is possible that this cavern predates the tunnel). |
