Description |
English: The Greymouth Opera House (sometimes called the "bug house") on Tainui Street was the largest wooden building in Greymouth. It caught fire on Sunday 9 February 1958 and burnt to the ground, despite extra crews being brought in from Cobden and Rununga. A set of four photos (before, during, and after the blaze) were taken by an employee of the Kerridge Odeon cinema chain visiting Greymouth. In this photo taken before the fire a poster indicates the 1954 Jack Webb movie Dragnet is screening. |

Notes | This photo is on the same paper stock as the other three in the series, is labelled in the same hand, and numbered "1" in the corner, so it seems likely it was indeed taken just before the fire. | ||||||||||||||||||||
