35 mm slide; color. Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Mammalia; Order: Carnivora; Family: Canidae; Genus: Vulpes; Genus species: Vulpes cinereoargenteus. Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 52-69 cm; Height: 30-41 cm; Weight: 2.5-7 kg; Identification: The grey fox has a gray agouti coat, a white throat, and a black-tipped mane along the top of its tail; Habitat: Woodlands, brush country, rocky terrain; Diet: Omnivore: birds, invertebrates, fruit, berries, small mammals, fish, reptiles, eggs; Reproduction: Grey foxes mate in February or March. A litter of 3-7 pups is produced after a gestation period of 51 days. These animals can live for up to ten years in captivity; Social Structure: The most common social unit is the family group with two adults and their pups. During the winter, gray foxes are solitary; Behavior: This species is nocturnal and can be very territorial; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: The gray fox can climb trees.
