The Glass-winged butterfly (Greta oto) is a member of the subfamily Danainae. The wings are transparent, with a span of 5.6 to 6.1 cm (2.2 to 2.4 in). The tissue between the veins of its wings looks like glass, as it lacks the colored scales found in other butterflies.The opaque borders of its wings are dark brown, sometimes tinted with red or orange, and its body is dark in color. Adult glass-wing butterflies are found mostly from Central to South America as far south as Chile. They can migrate great distances and have been documented as far north as Mexico and Texas. A borboleta de asas de vidro (Greta oto) é um membro da subfamília Danainae. As asas são transparentes, com envergadura de 5,6 a 6,1 cm (2,2 a 2,4 pol.). O tecido entre as nervuras de suas asas parece de vidro, pois não tem as escamas coloridas encontradas em outras borboletas. As bordas opacas de suas asas são marrom-escuras, às vezes tingidas de vermelho ou laranja, e seu corpo é de cor escura. Borboletas adultas com asas de vidro são encontradas principalmente da América Central à América do Sul e ao sul até o Chile. Eles podem migrar grandes distâncias e foram documentados no extremo norte do México e Texas. La tela entre las costillas de sus alas parece vidrio, sin las escamas de colores que se encuentran en otras mariposas.
