Summary

[edit]
Description The Restoration of the Gorongosa National Park represents one of the greatest conservation opportunities in the world, preserving a unique biodiversity and ecosystem found nowhere else. USAID is supporting the Gorongosa Restoration Project to create a mutually beneficial relationship between the park and the communities by assisting them in the establishment of their land rights, resource management practices, and democratic and socio-economic institutions. This aims at stimulating economic activity in central Mozambique through the encouragement of private sector park-related businesses. This project will also help define for Mozambique a responsible financial model for private sector participation in park management where income generated from ecotourism, donations, and environmental products and services supports park management expenses and local economic development.
