Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Greenock and Ayrshire Railway Now converted into a tarmac road as part of the National Cycle network, this was a working railway from Kilmacolm to Johnstone until it was closed in 1983. This was a worrying development at the time, as it was believed to be the first of many similar closures by a government with an ideological hatred of public transport. Fortunately the next victims - Settle to Carlisle and the North Berwick line into Edinburgh were well defended and survived to become busy routes. It is hoped to one day reopen this railway, or at least from Bridge of Weir.
