Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Each spring, green sweeps across the United States, starting from the south and moving to the north, and from lower elevations to higher elevations. Between early March and mid-April, the landscape changes dramatically from warming-winter to full-flush-spring.

On April 15, 2019, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired true-color imagery which showed the colors of spring across the Midwestern and Eastern United States. The greens are bright and widespread.

The image was created using the NASA Worldview app, which provides a satellite’s perspective of the planet as it looks today and as it has in the past. Worldview is part of NASA’s Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS). EOSDIS makes the agency’s large repository of data accessible and freely available to the public. Worldview also allows easy comparison of the same area at different points in time. On March 6, the MODIS on board the Terra satellite also acquired imagery of the same section of the United States. A beautiful roll-over comparison of spring green can be seen HERE.
