Summary
[edit]DescriptionGreenbottle lucilia caesar.jpg |
English: Greenbottle Fly - lucilia caesar. It's a fairly common fly in summer in Europe, seen usually on dung or flowers. It lays eggs on carrion or in wounds on living creatures. Preferentially eats decaying flesh so has been used in the controversial maggot therapies to excise infected wounds.
Often confused with bluebottles, has an irridescent bright green colour. Unlike bluebottles, this irridescence extends to the thorax as well as the abdomen. |
