Deutsch: Grünspecht (Picus viridis, Weibchen), mancherorts auch Grasspecht oder Erdspecht genannt: Der hier deutlich sichtbare einfarbige schwarze Wangenfleck ist charakteristisch für das Weibchen. (Hingegen zeigt das Männchen einen schwarz umrandeten roten Wangenfleck.) - Das sozusagen Besondere am Grünspecht, der mancherorts auch Grasspecht oder Erdspecht genannt wird, ist, dass dieser in der sog. Unterfamilie „Echte Spechte“ (Picinae) eingeordnet wird, die wiederum zur Familie „Spechte“ (Picidae) gezählt wird. Und diese „Echten Spechte“-Arten Grünspecht und Grauspecht als Schwesterart sind die einzigen ihrer Gattung namens Picus in Mitteleuropa lebenden Echten Spechte. Im Unterschied zu den anderen Spechten hackt die Art Grünspecht kaum an Baumstämmen, sondern sucht fast nur am Boden Nahrung, insbesondere spezialisiert auf Ameisen. Seine Zunge ist sehr viel länger als sein Schnabel und Art-Merkmal. Das Such-Verhalten lässt sich gut beobachten – mit Geduld. Sein scheues Verhalten löst schnell Fluchtverhalten Abflug aus. - Gesehen in Deutschland im Westerwald.
