Summary
[edit]DescriptionGreen Pond - geograph.org.uk - 862449.jpg |
English: Green Pond This pond was the centrepiece of a lovely enclosed rockery in East Park. Back in the 1960s, it was real pleasure to walk through the gardens here. If my memory serves me correctly, there was a sign at either end of the pathway saying that unaccompanied children of less than 14 years old were not allowed in this area. Then, most kids younger than this limit were too frightened to venture here in case they were caught by a park keeper! The gardens are no longer tended as they were with great pride (nor watched over by the keeper!) - probably due to financial cut-backs.... and of course suffer the inevitable vandalism these days. The gardens seem to be mainly covered now with self-seeded bramble plants and not the large array of shrubs and plants in years gone by. The pond had a waterfall, but the main feature in it now - beside the overwhelming weeds - is an abandoned bike which is now the centre 'attraction' of this water feature! |
