Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Saturday 17th of July 2010 was the 80th anniversary of the start of Green Line services in the capital. The London General Omnibus Company were losing fares on their long distance bus routes because of a number of private operators who were running suburban coach services. To counter this they decided to enter the market as well. The name Green Line was reportedly coined by Lord Ashfield and the first route ran from the Embankment, by Charing Cross station, to Guildford.

To mark the anniversary, a road run along the original route was carried out using examples of Green Line vehicles from the last 80 years. Here we see RCL2233, a 30ft long Routemaster coach passing Marble Arch. The vehicle entered service in 1965.

Parked on the right of the photo is a Guy Arab, up from the London Bus Museum in Cobham with volunteers to publicise the event by selling hop on-hop off tickets for the 715 Route. It dates to 1946 and has Park Royal bodywork
