The origin of the Green Island Lighthouse came from a shipwreck. In 1937, the most luxurious cruise ship, the President Hoover, was mistaken for the light of the Newport's successful lighthouse as a goose nose. The lighthouse caused the cruise ship to hit the reef outside the Green Island Mansion. The enthusiastic and friendly Green Island residents naturally assisted in the rescue. More than 1,100 passengers and crew members on the cruise ship were safely rescued, and they played the unique human touch of the islanders and enthusiastically let them These settled guests are placed at home, and the friendliness and enthusiasm of the island make all the people feel like spring breeze. In the following year, the American Red Cross Society felt the shipwreck of President Hoover. In order to commemorate the shipwreck and strengthen the safety of sailing on the sea, donated money to build the Green Island Lighthouse, so that the northwest of the Green Island is deep in the sea.
