Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Drawing of an ancient Greek vase painting from the collection of William Hamilton, appearing as plate 44 in volume 3 of Hamilton's Collection of Engravings from Ancient Vases. The text identifies the scene depicted as ritual combat in front of a depiction of Artemis Taurica.[1] D.E. Hill ("The Thessalian Trick", 1973) argues instead that it depicts the magical practice of drawing down the moon associated in the ancient sources with Thessalian witches.[2]
