The sculptor could not change that type.Lysippos was famed above his contemporaries for minute finish down tothe smallest details. Another ancient statuette could not be foundwhere this is more admirably exemplified. The hair and beard arefull of the most beautiful workmanship carried into the minutestdetails, while the powerful bodily forms are rendered with an extra-ordinary refinement extending to the observation of the finer musclesin the feet and even to a vein in the left arm. The animation hewas said to have imparted to his statues (^animosa signa) is conspicuousin the bronze.
