English: Great Wall is one of the Chinese automotive manufacturers that has actually made a lot of progress in developing markets internationally. Relying mostly on a lineup of pickups and SUVs (they are the largest SUV/pickup manufacturer in China) but also some cars, Great Wall has gained a solid foothold in markets like Zimbabwe, Chile, Bulgaria, Russia, and many others.
There aren't too many examples to be found in Jamaica - while Jamaicans have taken strongly to Chinese motorcycles and Chinese trucks and buses have gained a significant foothold in the market, Chinese cars, SUVs, and pickups haven't really caught on with Jamaican consumers or those elsewhere in the caribbean. Still, a few of these vehicles can be spotted on the island. This particular example is a Great Wall Deer, which is based on the Toyota Hilux and was in production from 1996 through 2013. It was replaced by a new model called the Wingle, which has some relation to the old Isuzu Rodeo. |
