Summary
[edit]DescriptionGreat Shelf - geograph.org.uk - 1414550.jpg |
English: Great Shelf The name of the field according to the 1839 tithe map. The chalkpit scarred northern face of Malling Hill can be seen in the distance with the town of Lewes to the right of it. Clay Hill marks the start of the Weald with the land in between being a thin band of greensand and one of the earliest parts of the county of Sussex to be used for agriculture particularly by Romans. |
