English: The great hornbill (Buceros bicornis), also recognized as the concave-casqued hornbill, great Indian hornbill, or great pied hornbill, stands as one of the larger members within the hornbill family. This species is prevalent in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Primarily adopting a frugivorous diet, it also displays predatory behavior towards small mammals, reptiles, and birds.

Characterized by its imposing stature, the great hornbill features a substantial yellow bill and casque. Its distinct coloration includes a black face, wings, and breast, creating a striking contrast with the white neck, belly, and tail. While both sexes share similar characteristics, females can be distinguished by an entirely yellow casque, a pale iris, and bare pink skin around the eye. During flight, distinctive features include a white tail with a black band, black wings with a yellowish-white band, and a white edge.

This remarkable species predominantly resides in dense evergreen forests. Its vocalization is typically identified as a robust series of deep grunts, contributing to its communication within its habitat.
