English: The inscription on the gravestone of George Thompson Hare (1 May 1861 – 2 February 1906), which was relocated from the Bukit Timah Cemetery to the north-east corner of Fort Canning Green, Singapore. Hare was appointed Secretary for Chinese Affairs for the Straits Settlements and Federated Malay States in 1903: S. Ramachandra, "An Excursion into the Past ...", The Sunday Times, 7 March 1954, p. 6. He was made a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George on 26 June 1902 (The Edinburgh Gazette, 27 June 1902, p. 653) and a Companion of the Imperial Service Order (I.S.O.) ("Coronation Honours List", The Straits Times, 5 July 1902, p. 3). For further information, see "Funeral of Mr. Hare", The Straits Times, 27 February 1906, p. 5.
The inscription on the gravestone reads: "GEORGE THOMPSON HARE / C.M.G.
