Description
Français : Granville est une commune française du département de la Manche en Normandie. Bureau centralisateur du canton et siège de la communauté de communes de Granville, terre et mer, c'est une station balnéaire et climatique de la baie du mont Saint-Michel à l’extrémité de la côte des havres, un ancien port morutier et le premier port coquillier de France. Elle est parfois surnommée la « Monaco du Nord » de par sa situation sur un promontoire rocheux, la présence d'un casino et de plusieurs grands hôtels de luxe. Sur un terrain occupé par les Vikings, la ville fondée par un vassal de Guillaume le Conquérant au XIe siècle, ancienne cité corsaire et forteresse de défense du Mont Saint-Michel, devient dès le XIXe siècle une station balnéaire fréquentée par de nombreux artistes, équipée d’un golf et d’un hippodrome. Patrie de la famille d'industriels Dior, commune importante qui absorbe en 1962 le village de Saint-Nicolas-près-Granville, port et aéroport du sud-Manche, c’est aussi depuis 1991 la ville du « Douzelage », jumelée avec vingt villes européennes et l’une des rares communes de France à disposer d’un quartier insulaire, les îles Chausey.
