Grant's birthplace at the Ohio State fairgrounds, photograph
Description
This building is the clap board covered log cabin in which General Ulysses S. Grant was born. Grant's birthplace was purchased by Henry T. Chittenden and brought by train to the Ohio State Fairgrounds for the opening of the Ohio Centennial in 1888. An attractive structure of glass and stone sheltered the small cabin from the ruthless elements and vandals between 1896 and 1935. This structure cost approximately $4,000 to construct. The cabin was returned to Point Pleasant, Ohio in 1935
