Homestead: the physical location is 60 Grandma Moses Road, Eagle Bridge, NY 12057, Rensselaer County, New York. History: Anna and Thomas moved to a farm in Eagle Bridge, New York in 1905. When Thomas Moses was about 67 years of age in 1927, he died of a heart attack, after which Anna's son Forrest helped her operate the farm. Anna Moses never married again. She retired and moved to a daughter's home in 1936. It was from this homestead in 1938 that she was “discovered” by Louis J. Caldor, an art collector who saw her paintings in the nearby Hoosick Falls, New York, drugstore. Impressed with her artwork he bought the paintings in the drugstore and went to her Eagle Bridge homestead where he bought her remaining paintings. Later in that same year, three of her acquired paintings were exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City in the show “Contemporary Unknown American Painters”. Her notoriety and acclaim progressed from those humble beginnings. Today, her great grandson, Will Moses, an accomplished artist in his own rite, lives with his wife in the homestead and operates a gallery on the property.
