Summary
[edit]DescriptionGrand Union Canal approaching Kingswood, Warwickshire - geograph.org.uk - 1712273.jpg |
English: Grand Union Canal approaching Kingswood, Warwickshire The canal was opened in 1799 as the Warwick and Birmingham Canal, and was one of eight canals which merged in 1929 to form the Grand Union Canal.
Here, seen from under Weston Hall Bridge (No 64} the canal is only four hundred metres from the link to Kingswood Junction (with the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal. The state of the towpath indicates that heavy rain had been falling in recent days, and more was to come (see the leaden skies in my images on this canal, 6 September 2008) which was to cause extensive flooding over the country and the collapse of part of the Stourbridge Canal two days later. |
