Car 842 at Brantford Station mid 1940's
Description
English: This photograph from the mid-1940s captures Grand River Railway interurban car number 842 stopped at the Brantford Union Station in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, almost twenty years after the end of Brantford and Hamilton Electric Railway service to the station. While this station was nominally only part of the Lake Erie and Northern Railway by this time, the operations of the Grand River Railway and Lake Erie and Northern Railway, jointly managed as the Canadian Pacific Electric Lines, had become increasingly integrated. On the left of the photograph, a bridge spanning the Grand River is visible. Parallel to the river is the Lake Erie and Northern mainline track which ran north to Galt and south to Port Dover, passing through the platform-adjacent station "tunnel" as it did so. The brick structure at the top was the second storey of the station, which was at grade with the street. To the right, the tracks of the former Brantford and Hamilton Electric Railway (which by this time no longer connected through to Hamilton) curve off toward the camera as a spur line, with a wagon carrying mail or express parcels on it ready to be loaded onto (or unloaded from) the interurban car. The low-slung building on the far right was the express office of the station.
