Summary
[edit]DescriptionGrand Isle Louisiana Levee Repair Work, January 2023 - 04.jpg |
English: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District personnel have been repairing portions of the levee in Grand Isle, La., that were damaged during Hurricane Ida. The roughly 4,000 feet of levees needs to have portions of their geotubes replaced; these sand-filled, latex-coated tubes form the foundation of the levees that are constructed over them. Portions of the geotubes were washed away with sections of the levee during the hurricane and are being replaced with plastic and nylon bags filled with approximately 1,400 pounds of sand. All portions of the levee are being raised from their current height of eight feet to 14 1/2 feet to provide additional storm protection. In addition, the Corps is also planning to place more breakwaters along the length of the island to potentially help reduce storm surge. |
