Notes
  • Significance: The Grand Hotel was one of the lavish buildings constructed in the San Diego boom period of the late 1880's. It was designed by the prominent local firm of Comstock and Trotsche, which was responsible for some of the most exuberant buildings in the San Diego area. The Grand Hotel was constructed in 1887 during one of San Diego's great boom periods. It was designed by Comstock and Trotsche Architects, who were responsible for some of San Diego's most impressive buildings. The building's most notable feature is an elaborate central stairhall lit from above by skylight. Its plan, with its light wells and windows opening onto the main hall brought air and light into the building and allowed maximum exploitation of the narrow site.
